Member APS College of Counselling Psychologists
The Practice:
As proprietor of a growing business in inner Melbourne , Dr. Curtis is knowledgeable of the problems that living in a fast paced global society can have on a person's psychological wellbeing. The underlying message of the practice is that, in addition to those individuals with a recognised psychological disorder, psychological services are also appropriate for normal people dealing with normal problems of modern life. Treatment is, however, not open-ended and, in most cases, much can be achieved in a relatively short period of time with regular hourly consultations.
Clinical and Counselling Problems:
Dr. Curtis specialises in situations when a person experiences more than one problem concurrently. These include medical problems. For example, anxiety/depression, anxiety/alcohol dependency, dementia/depression, chronic back pain/arthritis/depression, asthma/anxiety/panic attacks. Dr. Curtis also sees clients with relationship conflict, personality difficulties, poor motivation, life transition, work, university, and school stress, sleeping problems, self-esteem, self-identity, bullying, social isolation, and terrorism-related distress.
Cost of Service:
Dr. Curtis has a Generalist provider number with Medicare and is eligible to deliver up to 12 sessions in a calendar year of focused psychological strategies to people who have a recognised psychological problem as defined by the newly introduced Australian Government Mental Health Plan initiative. These clients must have a valid referral from their GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician. The rebate is currently $75.00 and clients will need to cover the difference between this and the set fee. Self-referred clients do not need a referral for psychological services and must fund the full cost of the set fee unless they have Private Health Funds rebates for allied health services recognised by ˇ°extraˇ±/ancillary cover, which considerably reduces the cost of treatment. Generally, Dr. Curtis charges the current APS recommended fee for a 50-minute psychological consultation of $186.00.
